Johnson Carpet Cleaning / Pet urine smell in carpet
Can carpet cleaning get pet urine smell out?
Often, yes. The smell comes from urine that has soaked down into the carpet backing and sometimes the pad, so a quick surface clean may not reach it. Treating the spots and pulling the urine back out is what removes the source. Jan treats pet urine, odor and stains in carpet, tile and furniture as a specialty.
Why does pet urine smell so strong in carpet?
Urine does not stay on top. It runs down the fibers into the backing and the pad, where it dries into a residue that keeps giving off odor. Damp or humid days can make an old spot smell stronger again. That is why covering the smell with a spray rarely lasts.
What should I do right after a pet accident?
- Blot with paper towels or a clean cloth, pressing down, instead of rubbing
- Keep blotting with fresh towels until little comes up
- Skip heavily scented sprays that only mask the smell
- Do not use heat or a hot iron on the spot
- Keep pets off the area and remember where it was so you can show Jan
Can urine soak into the pad underneath?
Yes. Large or repeated accidents in the same spot can soak through the carpet into the pad. Tell Jan how long the problem has been there and how often it happens. He will tell you up front what he can treat. A reviewer noted that Jan did not try to upsell services he knew would not work.
What do customers say about pet odor?
One customer called Jan for pet problems other companies had not solved, and wrote that he got the stains and odors out and saved them the cost of replacing the carpet. Another had a room with a long-standing urine smell on the tile and said it was completely gone. Results depend on the spot, so ask about yours.
Does pet urine affect tile and sofas too?
Yes. Grout is porous, so urine on a tile floor soaks into the grout lines and holds the smell there. On a sofa it sinks into the cushions. Jan treats pet urine and odor in tile and grout and upholstery as well as carpet.
What should I tell Jan when I call?
- Where the accidents happened, including old spots
- How long the smell has been there
- Which pets you have
- A photo of the worst area, if you can text one
